About this study group
We will be going through each book of the Bible, chapter by chapter, studying God's word. This course is both an independent reading and a group discussion in our "Discussions" area. The reading plan and discussions are designed to keep you moving through the Bible, but because of the structure of the reading plans and discussion forums, you are free to go at your own pace and discuss chapters as you reach them. The reading plan is a structured, but un-timed, reading plan, so you can go chapter by chapter without having to feel rushed. The important part is understanding God's Word, not the speed at which you are doing it. This type of discussion forum also helps you understand and discuss the verses in light of what the whole of scripture says; as you move along, others may comment on a post you left in an earlier chapter or you may have insight into an earlier passage and can easily go back to the previous discussion to share your insight. I like to think of this system as "forced hermeneutics", it keeps us honest and it gets us into a habit of interpreting scripture by scripture, not scripture by what we might wish, feel or been told by others. To join the discussion, simply register as a member using the "register" button on the top-right hand corner of every page (directly below the video). This gives you full access to the discussion forums, private messaging system and LIVE Chat rooms (another great tool for fellowship on rainy days and a place to instantly discuss scripture and apologetics). You can read the posts in the "Discussion" area without an account, but to post your thoughts or reply to others you will need to sign up for an account, which again is free and simply a way to keep unwanted robots from posting questionable content.
This study group is being lead by Ryan (ChristianGaijin) Russell (that's me). A link to my profile can be found in the Discussion area as well as through the User List. What does "ChristianGaijin" mean? Well obviously its a statement that I am Christian, but the word "gaijin" is a Japanese word that literally means "foreigner" or "outsider." As I am an American living in Japan, it is what I am referred to as... "gaijin".
Although I have no "formal" training, such as attending a Bible college or theological seminary, I do have a passion for understanding the Word of God, to believe it literally and consistently, in context and free of dogmatic / preconceived notions. I am on a life long path to learn and memorize the whole of scripture, including the original Hebrew and Greek, which you will see me mention from time to time. Having said that, I do participate in other studies and informal training courses from leading seminary and scholarly studies. Because I believe in the power of the original language, I will share the Hebrew and Greek words as well as the full definition of those words according to the Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionary including Strong's numbers for you to verify it (if I forget to post it, feel free to question me on it, I will happily correct the posting and provide the number).
Thank you once again for joining this Bible Study course and may God bless and guide you in your path to truth in His Word.
